Hey, random question. I don't sew much, but covet a serger. Can I justify getting one? Is there a secret method for getting my basic sewing machine to do pretty much the same thing? When did you decide to get yours?

What I really need help with is a simple way to keep cut edges from fraying. Right now I use a zigzag stitch or a boat-load of fraycheck. Is a serger the answer to all my prayers?
