In Louisiana, when a hurricane heads your way, we hit the liquor store first. Actually the liquor is in the grocery store, so it's kinda one stop shopping. We didn't worry too much about toilet paper or milk. For Hurricane Sandy, we did pick up batteries, bread, and peanut butter for the impending storm. However, we cannot forget the important stuff: beer.
Hubby took me to this wine and liquor superstore nearby, Total Wine & More. I was in beer heaven. They had aisles and aisles of beer. Microbrews, imports, porters, ales, Belgian style, you name it. I liked that I could buy a six pack or just singles bottles of beer. It was a good way to try out new to me beers. Plus the customer service was fantastic. Everywhere we walked in the store, employees asked us if we needed help. They looked like they actually wanted to help us. And they did.
By the time you read this, Hurricane Sandy should have landed on the east coast. Here's what I plan on drinking while it rains sideways outside.
I picked up a bottle of Heavy Seas Pumpkin Ale. I admit I drank it Friday night while I doodled. It wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be. Don't worry, I didn't waste it.
I searched for beer with chocolate and/or coffee notes, so I grabbed this Rogue Mocha Porter. It's heavy dark beer and was excellent. Especially with a side of dark chocolate.
I'll report back on the other beers we bought. Hubby picked up some Louisiana Abita beers and I have another porter in the fridge.
