Growing up our family didn't have cable television so I watched a ton of PBS, including cooking shows like Yan Can Cook and Julia Child's shows. Julia taught me how to make croissants, which I attempted to make when I was 12 or 13. I failed horribly at it, mostly because we didn't have a rolling pin or real butter (margarine was cheaper for my immigrant parents) and I didn't have the patience for it. Baking on tv is sooo much easier.
Still all those cooking shows inspired me to learn how to cook and I thank PBS and Julia Child for that!
