Crafting Kid Sized Super Heroes with Kiwi Crate Kits (Review)
As a crafty mom, I love prepackage craft kits. As much as I love digging through my craft supply stash for my kids, sometimes I just don't have the time or energy for it. That's why I keep craft kits on hand. During Evo Conference, I was gifted with Kiwi Crate's Super Hero Cape kit. One of my friend gave me hers so I had one for each of the kids.
Kiwi Crate is a subscription based program that sends kids monthly projects that spark creativity and curiosity for kids ages 3-7. They offer not just craft kits, but science activities too. I think my darling scientist Sophia would like the dinosaur kit. Plus check out their packaging. So cute! I'm a sucker for good packaging.
Our cape kit offered everything we needed except for scissors: a cape with kid-friendly velcro closures, pre-cut sticky felt in different shapes, and a piece of sticky felt to cut out your own design. Also included were directions, but we, ahem, didn't read them until the capes were finished. The direction also includes fun super hero discussion questions and play ideas.
I helped the kids cut out their initials in the felt. Most of the peeling and sticking, they did themselves. We did have some issues with the black felt staying stuck to Jaxson's cape. I tweeted Kiwi Crate about the issue. They responded quickly and sent out another kit. I'm impressed because I didn't pay for this kit (it was part of our swag during Jyl's Ignite presentation at Evo) and they didn't have to send me replacement. Still they did.
Sophia and Jaxson have been running around the apartment doing super things in their new capes. I love watching where their imagination takes them. Today is another super hot day in DC and kits like the ones from Kiwi Crate come in handy inclement weather days.
Kiwi Crates start at $19.95 a month. For an additional $7.95, there is a sibling option where they give you additional materials. You can also have grandparents, aunts, and uncles purchase gift subscriptions for the kids as well. I like that their kits encourage play, away from screens, and into their imaginations.
I received a Kiwi Crate for free during Evo Conference but was not obligated to write about them or review their kits.
